My father's Alzheimer's progressed to a point where he was in need of trained care. This is a difficult decision to have to make for a loved one. She answered any questions we had and asked questions of us, in effort to know my father. We were also pleasantly surprised to see how welcoming, green and beautiful the surroundings were. My Dad loved being outdoors... he had all of his life. This was a huge consideration for us and we didn't know if we'd be able to find such a place. Residents can be out amidst green grass, shade trees and flowers... all tended to with care. How wonderful to be able to feel a gentle breeze and listen to birdsong under the trees! Residents live in cottages surrounding the greens and can sit outside and enjoy being in nature--- a gift that made days all the brighter. We toured the facility, met staff and residents and observed group activities. It didn't take long for us to realize we had found the right home away from home for Dad. We felt comfortable knowing he was going to be in good hands. Family is encouraged to visit, take part in activities and remain a presence in their loved ones life. Activity Coordinators plan stimulating daily activities. There are frequent visits from musicians and entertainers. Therapy animals visit often... always highlight. Every effort is made to bring joy and light to resident's days. Thank you to Sean (owner), Judy and all the nursing staff and care providers for making my father's last days as beautiful as possible. We deeply appreciate the dignity and respect that the staff at Sunshine Village gave to my Dad and to all of the residents. We are forever grateful for your loving care.
In 2018 - My Father-in-Law suffered a complete break with reality and spent two weeks in the ICU and a month in diagnosis at a local psychiatric hospital. He was diagnosed with advanced dementia / advanced Alzheimer's and was unable to handle anything on his own including dressing. My wife & I became conservator and co-guardians. We needed to find a memory care qualified care facility where he would adapt, be taken complete care of, and thrive. We are fortunate that we elected to have him stay with Sunshine Village because the entire staff and level of care is amazing! He was always clean,…
He was always clean, shaved, hair cut, with his clothes on correctly. He gained weight, was involved with attending the music and games programs - and the community loved him. His last years were spent in a truly compassionate setting. As his medical complications worsened - Sunshine Village staff kept us informed each time he had to go to the hospital and made sure we understood the situation. As a teen, I worked in a series of 6 nursing homes in Massachusetts - and had an uncle with Alzheimer's. I have seen first-hand the comparisons that can be made with Sunshine Village and say without reservation that Sunshine Village is one of the most caring (if not THE MOST caring), committed community of professionals, delivering an amazing 24x7x365 program of memory care and personal care in a beautiful setting. They are dedicated to serving all their patients with dignity and respect. Most importantly - the caring attitude and kind approach to everything done at Sunshine Village, including the communications from staff, nurse, doctor, and administration - (at every level) exceeded all of our expectations. We regularly visited prior to COVID and when restrictions were put in place to protect the residents (THANK YOU!) - we asked for and received telephone updates. When visitation resumed - before being admitted to the facility - we were checked for temperature, required to properly wear our masks, and keep an appropriate distance from residents and staff. WELL DONE by following guidelines. We wish to express sincere appreciation for all that is done at Sunshine Village where residents and their families are treated with respect and kindness.
This last year not only did my mother with full on Alzheimer's need an assisted care home but then my father with an onset of Dementia, who is also wheel chair bound after breaking his hip at home. This facility has such knowledge and comprehension of the level and different types of memory care needed. Both parents came from out of state and with COVID there was a lot of hurdles that had to be overcome. Judy, the awesome Resource Director worked with me every step of the way, provided direct and detailed information and she ALWAYS responded to my calls and emails. I did many hours and days…

Both parents came from out of state and with COVID there was a lot of hurdles that had to be overcome. Judy, the awesome Resource Director worked with me every step of the way, provided direct and detailed information and she ALWAYS responded to my calls and emails. I did many hours and days of calling and research and Sunshine Village would always respond they would find a way to make things work (never heard them say we cannot do that) and they were they ONLY facility that would work to get my parents a cottage together. There is always a warm welcome when you visit or call, the receptionists are amazing and very friendly. They went over and above during the phone/window visits and Covid restrictions, making sure to get us through to our loved ones or staff! I am so impressed with the care and home environment they are able to enjoy, not a small little apartment. There are multiple cottages with a beautiful courtyard full of trees, grass and flowers everywhere! They also have an indoor community area and outdoor courtyard for the residents and family, visits are such a pleasure. The entire staff shows they truly care and treat the residents like family. They strive to make your loved one happy and content. While security is a top priority, the courtyard feels open and unencumbered, the residents can walk throughout the beautifully kept grounds. The entire staff is always welcoming and friendly, from the care givers, nurses, maintenance workers, all the way to Patti the hands on Director and Sean the Owner ~ truly genuine. They want nothing but the best for their residents and we consider them as our extended family. They ensure the residents get the proper level of care for their needs, and Angie the Care Coordinator is awesome at getting any service brought to them at the facility including dentists, eye doctors, physical therapy and haircuts! The head nurse, Debra is AMAZING she has her finger on the pulse and knows what is going one with each of the residents, and takes care of my folks like they are her own. Sarah and Jack the Activity Coordinators are the most dedicated and compassionate team, their love for the residents and this community shines so bright. They come up with all the stimulating daily activities, parties and even have the Phoenix Symphony come by to play for the residents. Our family feels extremely blessed and confident that we have them in right place, receiving the best care!
I can’t recommend Sunshine Village enough! I was looking to move my mother from another AL facility where the managers were unreasonable, unprofessional and illegal. I had to move her quickly, but I was extremely worried about what the current availability in other AL facilities around my area. I was so happy to hear Sunshine Village had availability! I first heard of them 10 years ago from a co-worker that had her mother and mother-in-law there. She gushed every time she spoke about Sunshine Village. I knew back then it was a special place. Prior to move-in, Judy and the rest of the staff made sure everything went through smoothly. I was so amazed of their kindness, dedication and their hearts. I feel so much better knowing that my mom is being well cared for and loved. She is so happy there and so am I.
its not a manor
I recently moved my husband to Sunshine Village, which was extremely difficult for both him and me. The folks at Sunshine Village have been so wonderful, and the level of care is amazing. I feel blessed that we have landed here!
Alzheimer's is a scary disease for everyone impacted by it - the person with the disease as well as their family. Although we did the best we could to take care of my mom at home, it got to the point where her doctors felt it best for her to be in a facility that could provide a higher level of care. Most places we toured felt like sterile, isolated, hospital wings. Then we found Sunshine Village. WOW! Truly a gift from God. They specialize in memory care with an emphasis on "care" - the staff is amazingly loving and dedicated to each and every resident - and to their family! I hope you and your family never need memory care, but if you do, I hope you are lucky enough to come to Sunshine Village.
I moved my mother who has Alzheimer's Disease to Sunshine Village about 3 years ago, and it's been the best decision I've made for her! All of the staff are - simply put - AMAZING! They deeply care for the residents and treat them all like they were family. They notify me of any and all changes that occur with my Mom's health and surroundings, and I cannot imagine her anywhere else. If you're thinking of moving a loved one to Sunshine Village, I would definitely recommend doing so. You'll not regret it.
