I am speaking for my Mom... 1-arrival ppwk was overwhelming after just leaving the hospital, but we were greeted by Jayleen, the Head Nurse; 2-UNfortunately, I fell in their very vinyl chair. 3-their staff was very kind & attentive. Suzette went above & beyond to communicate patient needs & services w/my daughter. 4-the food was not good, very salty & unecessary gravy at every meal w/o request (they could save money here). 5-finally, one day i wasnt given my nec. bp med because "they ran out", paramedics were called after on-call doc Rx er-saving bp med. I visited a resident on most Sundays at Desert Cove nursing home during lunchtime. This Sunday the resident I was visiting and I went to the dining room a few minutes before noon. Other than the table clothes on the tables, the dining room was not prepped for dining. Kitchen doors were closed and the residents just sat there. It was a depressing sight. Then Claudia arrived from the center's office. She hustled to get things going. She got the staff, who were hanging out, motivated to get moving with tasks that needed to be done. Waited many times 1/2 hour or more while having run out of water, waiting and waiting for medications and diaper changes while the red light outside the room is on before someone comes. I've had 11 surgeries and this experience should be named a nightmare! A nursing home like this one that doesn't have enough employees should close immediately!
Our experience at this facility was deeply disappointing and, ultimately, unacceptable. During my mother-in-law's stay, there were multiple occasions where she was left sitting in soiled clothing and bedding for extended periods of time. Basic hygiene and personal care appeared to be neglected unless family members repeatedly intervened. At one point, the bathroom in her room remained covered in feces and was not cleaned despite being reported. After waiting hours for assistance, I ended up cleaning it myself. What was especially concerning was being told by a staff member that another resident would reportedly enter various rooms to use the bathrooms. If true, this raises serious concerns about supervision, safety, and sanitation. My mother-in-law was admitted for rehabilitation with the goal of regaining independence, managing her medications, and rebuilding the skills necessary to return home safely. Instead, she spent the vast majority of her time confined to bed. Despite being unable to safely manage many daily tasks on her own, we were repeatedly told she was considered "independent" simply because she could walk a short distance with a walker from her bed to the bathroom. We were also informed that she required a diabetic diet when going into the facility. However, desserts continued to be served with her meals despite multiple requests to address the issue. We were told that the kitchen was short-staffed, but they would correct the issue promptly. This was not rectified until the last day or two of her stay. Adding to our frustration, we later received a billing issue dating back to November. We have visited the facility in person multiple times and made numerous phone calls seeking clarification. To date, no one has returned our calls or provided assistance. While there were individual caregivers who showed genuine compassion and kindness, it was clear they were overwhelmed and stretched far too thin. The facility appeared significantly understaffed, which seemed to affect the quality of care residents received. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this facility. Families place tremendous trust in rehabilitation and care centers during some of the most difficult times in their lives. Unfortunately, that trust was not earned here.
My Dad was at this facility for 8 weeks. He came here following a fall and a week at the hospital. The people at Desert Cove really care about their residents, everyone is friendly and welcoming. My dad came in a wheelchair and left walking again. My family and I are forever grateful to everyone at this facility 🤍
If you truly love your loved ones do not come to this facility. My dad was in the facility 3 day and due to their lack of urgency and incompetence my dad die!! The head nurse couldn't reach a doctor throughout the day. The main physician was on vacation and the backup wouldn't respond. This place needs to be investigated and shut down. I haven't heard from anyone since my dad died in room 318 on March 29. When a friend went to pick up my dad's belongings hours later someone had taken his electronic chargers from the room. My friend refused to leave without all his belongings. It took 30 minutes to recover chargers. DO NOT BRING ANYONE YOU LOVE HERE!!!
I was leary trying to find a skilled nursing facility for my 93 old dad that is clean, caring and compassionate. (My last experience for Dad at another facility in Mesa was definitely not that.) Desert Cove, however, is a breath of fresh air as their staff is so kind to not only Dad, but to me as well. They are diligently working to get him stronger so he can go home. I have been so impressed and I’m so happy I found Desert Cove. Thank you!
I was admitted to Desert Cove Skilled Nursing Facility on Feb 2, at approximately 9pm, and remained inpatient until Feb 20th. When I arrived from Chandler Regional Hospital, the head nurse informed my husband and I that he didn’t have any information regarding my meds which I was due for w/in an hour. I was on significant pain meds as well as time sensitive meds, yet I went 36hrs before all of my meds were administered, and only because I called the hospital and convinced one of the nurses there to help. I spent my first 36hrs at the facility in excruciating pain. In the first 2 wks I was in the facility, I was unable to attend physical therapy at least half of the time because the staff failed to administer my meds on time throwing me back into unmanageable pain. I had gone into this facility because I was not capable of caring for myself at home, & I believed my husband & kids would be able to work and not worry about me. Unfortunately, that was anything but true. My daughter had to leave work in Casa Grande 3 times to get nurses to listen to me, my husband had to leave work early nearly every day to sit with me & make sure my meds were given on time, and my son stayed late into the evening to make sure I was being taken care of. I was a patient due to a diagnosis that causes extreme pain when touched, I had to repeatedly remind nurses and even hung signs to alert them to my needs, yet several nurses still literally argued with me about my needs. (even when ordered by a dr). My stay didn’t relieve any stress on myself or my family, it only caused more. You would think this alone would be enough, but this stay had even more… I wasn’t given a menu to chose my meals until the 2nd week, didn’t even know there where menu options until my husband asked. (after having to bring me my meals). The meals that I would eat were good, but usually cold. My 1st wk there I was diagnosed w/ shingles, so I was quarantined to my room, I had to bathe in the sink. Even w/ limited mobility. My 2nd wk I was offered a shower after 9pm, and wasn’t able to shower until my 3rd week when I mentioned to my physical therapist that I hadn’t showered since I arrived. During my entire stay, my sheets were NEVER changed despite multiple requests. You would think this would be enough, but then comes the Doctor. Dr Kane. If you are thinking you will see a Dr that listens to you, answers your questions, has an ounce of compassion, think again! He answers questions with “Oh we will take care of that”, “You don’t need to worry about that”, spend MAYBE 5 min in the room with you, then send you a bill for 30 min visits at $250+ for each time he walks into your room! When it was time to be discharged, I required enough meds until I could see my own Dr. 5 days later. One of my meds was prescribed at 1.5 tablets every 4hrs. Dr. Kane called in a prescription for 15 tablets, enough for about a day and a half. This way, they could keep me an extra 4 days. When I first brought it up to Dr Kane, he said I would figure it out, when I said something in front of the case worker, suddenly he realized his error and laughed it off. Even after I got home, the horror of the Nursing Facility wasn’t over. I suddenly had several sores show up on my abdomen. A visit to my PCP and I was diagnosed with cellulitis from insulin injection sites administered by nurses at Desert Cove. All in all, except for the CNA’s, and maybe 3 of the nurses who cared for me in almost 4 weeks, my stay at this facility was like all of the horror stories you hear about nursing facilities. I know I spent the 1st 36 hours of my stay screaming and crying in pain, and many nights listening to others do the same. The only positive about this place is their PT/OT providers, they seemed to be the only ones to care about their patients. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
